In the sixties, Ms. Housman spent several years in New York City working as an actress. She appeared on Broadway with George C. Scott in The Wall and on a CBS special as Uta Hagen's daughter. She was signed to a two year contract as a leading lady with a major Israeli theater company, and participated in the Venice Theater Biennale in 1963. Elaine is a member of the New York Artists Circle.

A Life Member of the Art Students Leage, Ms. Housman studied drawing, painting, and printmaking at the lear with: Bevery Hale, Thomas Forgarty, Marshall Glaser, Richard Mayhew, Everett Raymond Kinstler, Anthony Palumbo, Vincent Malta and Roberto DeLamonica. She studied sculpture with Hana Geber at the Sculpture Center and with Rhoda Sherbell and Barbara Lekberg at the National Academy.
